Dear Hayden (25m)

Dear Hayden,

Happy 25 months, sweet boy! I know that once you turned 2 I'm supposed to stop counting your age in months and let you just be plain old 2, but I can't even help it. It's so ingrained in my brain that the 16th of each month is a special day. You're just growing and changing SO quickly I feel like I need a special space to record it.

This has been such a big month for you! You got your 3rd haircut and I cannot even take how much older you look, we traded your high chair for a booster seat, and the biggest news of all - you moved from your crib to a big boy bed! Or "choo-choo bed" as you call it. You've completely blown me away with how perfectly easy your transition to the bed went because SO many things in the past have been so hard with you, my stubborn, strong-willed, wonderful child. Sleeping through the night = hard. Breastfeeding = hard. Keeping you content during the day = hard. Eating table food = hard. I was prepared for a fight to keep you in this bed, but you've shocked me and your Dad by being so wonderfully content and obedient. I'm so proud!

You still have no idea you're going to be a big brother, even though people occasionally ask you about "new baby." This bed was our first step at preparing you for being a big-kid big brother and I was honestly SO sad at first. I don't typically get upset or weepy as you grow older and hit milestones - I celebrate and enjoy each passing phase, but this time I felt like I was losing all the "baby-ness" out of my baby! Regardless of the day we bring a new sibling home, and even if there are more babies after that, you will ALWAYS be my first baby. And I asked you if you'll always be my baby, even when you're grown and you said YES, so I'm holding you to it. (You also said you'd always tell me everything and that you'd always love me more than any other woman, but I'm thinking I'll need those in writing in a few years :o))

You've also been the sweetest little thing on the planet 90% of the time this month. I'm really enjoying you, your conversation, and your bear hugs! Love you to the moon!

xoxo,
Mama
